International Workshop on Mercury Science and Minamata Convention

International Workshop on Mercury Science and Minamata Convention held on 13-15 March, 2019 in Japan.

The representatives of related Ministries from Japan, Antigua & Barbuda, Gabon, Mexico Mongolia, Sweden and academicians from University of Connecticut, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University were participated in the workshop. Zeynep Leloğlu from Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of Turkey and Ayşen Toksöz from UNIDO Center for Regional Cooperation in Turkey were present in the workshop.

The following topics were discussed in the workshop;

• Mercury emission/release inventories and material flow analysis
• How national emission/release inventories of mercury can be improved
• Multi-media mercury monitoring and use of data for key policy decisions
• Global mercury modeling and baseline scenario for long-term forecasting
• Understanding the Environmental Response of Mercury to Policy Interventions
• Tackling the Mercury Cycle in an Era of Environmental Change
• Global-scale modeling on mercury biogeochemical cycles in the ocean
• Monitoring the Change in Mercury in Ocean Waters and Adjacent Atmosphere
• Science-policy interaction for implementing the Minamata Convention

The last day team visited the ACAP/EANET laboratories and Maki Monitoring Station in Niigata, Japan.
